Overview
Damodar Kund Yatra 2026
The Damodar Kund Yatra is one of the rarest and most sacred pilgrimages in the Himalayas. Situated in the restricted Upper Mustang region of Nepal near the Tibetan border, Damodar Kund is a cluster of holy high-altitude lakes sitting at approximately 4,890 meters above sea level. Hindus and Buddhists from across India and Nepal undertake this Damodar Kund Yatra 2026 to seek purification, moksha (liberation), and the blessings of Lord Vishnu, also known as Damodar.
The Damodar Kund tour with Divine Kailash is a fully organized 5-day pilgrimage package with helicopter access, permit processing, guided rituals at Muktinath Temple, and sightseeing in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Every detail is taken care of so you can focus entirely on the spiritual experience.

Description of Damodar Kund Tour 2026
Damodar Kund finds mention in the Barah Purana as a tirtha of immense spiritual power. The lake cluster includes three sacred kunds: Brahma Kunda, Rudra Kunda, and Ananta Kunda. Taking a holy bath here is believed to wash away sins from multiple lifetimes and grant the soul liberation. Many pilgrims also undertake this yatra on behalf of departed family members, as a dip in these waters is believed to grant moksha to departed souls as well.
The kali Gandaki River, one of the most sacred rivers in Hindu tradition and a source of Shaligram shilas, originates from these very lakes.
Damodar Kund sits inside a restricted zone of the Nepal government. A special Upper Mustang entry permit (USD 500 per person) and an Annapurna Conservation Area Project permit (USD 30 per person) are mandatory. Because of its remoteness, the traditional approach involved 15 to 20 days of trekking through Mustang. Today, controlled helicopter access allows pilgrims to reach the sacred lake safely and efficiently.
Every year on the August Full Moon, thousands of Hindu and Buddhist devotees gather at Damodar Kund for a large religious fair with group puja, ritual offerings, and prayers. Divine Kailash organizes dedicated Damodar Kund Yatra 2026 batches aligned with this festival and also runs departures from April through September for pilgrims who wish to travel outside the festival period.
The yatra also includes darshan at Muktinath Temple (one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu, at 3,710 m), Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu (one of the holiest Shiva temples in the world), and Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in Asia.

Food During the Damodar Kund Yatra
The base package does not include all meals unless specified at the time of booking. Here is what you can expect at each point of the journey:
Kathmandu and Pokhara: A wide range of Indian, Nepali, Chinese, and continental food is available at hotels and restaurants near your accommodation. Breakfast is typically included in the hotel stay.
Muktinath area (Jomsom and Ranipauwa): Basic Nepali meals are available at local teahouses, including dal bhat, momos, chapati, and simple Indian thalis. Quality and variety are limited compared to Kathmandu.
At Damodar Kund (4,890 m): There are no permanent food stalls or restaurants at the lake. Pilgrims must carry packed food, dry snacks, energy bars, and sufficient water for the time spent at the site. Divine Kailash arranges packed snacks and meals for this day on request.
It is advisable to avoid heavy, oily, or spicy food at high altitude. Light, easily digestible meals keep you energized and reduce the risk of nausea.
Clothing and Packing List
The Upper Mustang region is cold, dry, and extremely windy, even during August. Come prepared.

- Down jacket or thick fleece jacket (temperatures near Damodar Kund can drop to 0 degrees Celsius or below even in summer)
- Windproof outer jacket
- Warm woollen cap, gloves, and neck gaiter
- Trekking pants and comfortable walking shoes with ankle support
- Sunglasses with UV protection (the glare at high altitude is intense)
- Sun hat for lower altitude sections

- Personal medication including any prescription drugs
- Basic first aid kit (bandages, antiseptic, paracetamol, ORS sachets)
- Sunscreen SPF 50 or higher and lip balm
- Personal water bottle or hydration flask (minimum 1 litre)
- High-calorie dry snacks: nuts, dates, energy bars, chocolate

Health Advice
The Damodar Kund Yatra involves helicopter travel to 4,890 meters. While this removes the physical demand of trekking, the body still needs to cope with high altitude and reduced oxygen. Keep the following in mind:
- See a doctor before the yatra if you have any history of heart disease, hypertension, asthma, or respiratory conditions
- Do not consume alcohol or smoke for at least 48 hours before and during the yatra
- Drink 3 to 4 litres of water per day to stay hydrated
- Walk slowly and avoid any sudden exertion after landing at high altitude
- Avoid heavy meals on the day of the helicopter flight to Damodar Kund
- Carry Diamox (acetazolamide) only if prescribed by your doctor
Altitude Sickness
Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can affect any pilgrim regardless of age or fitness. It occurs due to reduced oxygen at high altitude and can begin at elevations above 3,000 meters.
Watch for these symptoms:
- Persistent headache
- Nausea or vomiting
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Unusual fatigue or breathlessness
- Loss of appetite
If you experience any of these symptoms at Damodar Kund, inform your Divine Kailash coordinator immediately. The correct response is immediate descent to a lower altitude. Do not ignore symptoms or continue upward.
The helicopter-based approach in our tour package provides a critical safety advantage: rapid descent is possible if any pilgrim shows signs of serious altitude sickness. Do not self-medicate with oxygen or Diamox without guidance from your coordinator or a medical professional.

GOOD Based on 5 reviews Posted on Google deepu KuldeepTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We are five Bangalore residents who travelled to Muktinath, Pokhara, and Kathmandu with Divine Kailash in December 2022. It was a road trip from Gorakhpur, and everything went perfectly, with excellent service, hotels, food, and all arrangements. The best part is the Nepali support contact; one phone call and all your problems are resolved. Special thanks to both drivers, who are very experienced, and especially to the Nepali driver who drove us to Muktinath.Posted on Google Sanjay ATrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
